【ひらく】と印象が変わる

【ひらく】という言葉は、広告制作の現場で使われると一般の意味とは全然違ってくる。一般には文字通りの『開く』という＜オープン＞の意味で使われると思う。

実際の現場では「これは、ひらいて！」とか言われる。つまりどういうことかというと、

漢字で書かれた言葉をひらがなにする

という意味だ。同じ言葉でも文字になると、その言葉から受ける印象が変わると感じたことはないだろうか？

例えば、『心』という言葉。話し言葉だと全く感じないことが、文字という見えるカタチになると、途端に雰囲気が変わってくる。

心　こころ　ココロ

漢字の『心』は＜真面目＞＜お堅い＞＜シリアス＞＜堅苦しい＞＜神聖さ＞など、清らかで揺るぎない印象。

ひらがなの『こころ』は＜優しい＞＜やわらかな＞＜あたたかみ＞＜ほっこり感＞＜安らぎ＞など、包容力や情のある印象。余談だが夏目漱石の小説のタイトルもひらがなだった。

カタカナの『ココロ』は＜科学的＞＜軽やか＞＜心地よさ＞＜元気感＞＜ポップ感＞など、取っつきやすい印象。

これら以外の印象を持つ人もいると思うが、大体上記のような印象の範囲に収まるだろうと思う。日本語には、漢字・ひらがな・カタカナの表記によって、どうやら印象が変わってしまう“特徴”があるようだ。他の言語にはない世界唯一のことかもしれない。

『薬』『くすり』『クスリ』でも印象が違うと思う。調剤薬局などはどちらかといえば『薬』、ドラッグストアなら『クスリ』、小児科医院や動物病院では『おくすり』となっていることが多いと思う。

意識的にせよ無意識的にせよ、なぜ、そういう使い分けがされているのだろうか？

それは、買う人、来る人、買ってほしい人、来てほしい人を考えて使い分けているからに他ならない。彼らをマーケティング用語で『ターゲット』という。

このターゲットに合わせて広告制作の現場において、漢字がいいのか、ひらがながいいのか、カタカナがいいのか、をいちいち考えている。コピーライターがそのことに神経を遣い、キャッチコピーやリードコピーに表現する。

例えば、ヤナセというカーディーラーがあるが、その広告コピーで、

クルマはつくらない、クルマのある人生をつくっている。

というものがある。如何だろうか？クルマをあえてカタカナ、作らないではなく『つくらない』、作っているではなく『つくっている』。これを漢字で普通に書くと、

車は作らない、車のある人生を作っている。

となる。言っていることは変わらないのに、印象は随分と違うと思う。前者は洗練された雰囲気と余裕を感じるが、後者は実直で職人気質のような頑固さを感じないだろうか。言っていることは同じでも印象はまるで逆だ。

どう感じるかは人それぞれで構わないが、同じ内容でも表記によって印象が違うということを感じてくれたらと思う。

仕事でメールを使用することが多いと思うが、ところどころ漢字をあえてひらがな、あるいはカタカナで表記する【ひらく】ということを戦術的におこなうと、相手に自分の印象を作ることができることを覚えておいても損はないかもしれない。また、相手によって使い分けてもいい。セルフブランディングの一助にも役立つと思う。
